Sunday signaled the end of Paris Menswear Fall 2014 Fashion Week (and coincidentally the beginning of Haute Couture Fashion week Spring/Summer 2014) with the Thom Browne Fall 2014 collection...Browne is famous (or infamous) for putting on shows. Never mind that very few of the specific
clothes shown on his runway collections find their way onto the backs of many customers (or even into
stores); it's all about fashion as theater and well, showing his "inspiration". It all then gets merchandised in a way that will make it somewhat palatable for that UBER skinny shrunken suit-loving very wealthy dot.com hipster/actor/musician who can afford Thom Browne.






Colors: Gray.



Trends: Shrunken double breasted jackets, shrunken vests, cropped "high-water" trousers (all a Browne staple); mixing plaids, mixing grays.

certainly raised some eyebrows and some ire, but there was also a sense
that because it was Karl, it was luxury fashion, and not as offensive as when Urban Outfitters or Karlie Kloss  featured similar headgear. So Karl remained pretty much unscathed. Now Belgian designer Walter Van Beirendonck is here to remind us all that the headdress thing was a big faux pas.
For his latest menswear collection, he sent a model down the runway
wearing a cartoonishly large feathered headpiece adorned with a middle
finger and the words STOP RACISM scrawled across it. Just call it the runway version of a subtweet. We get you loud and clear, Walter, but will everyone else?"

Mickey Mouse Granny Drag Hipsters...and Disrobing Gaultier Stud-Boy







Let's begin with the Mickey Mouse/Drag/Hipsters--Comme des Garçons Fall/Winter 2013-2014:















The Look: Mickey Mouse-and-Playboy Bunny-like hats, "Granny" notched-collar/lapel jackets and coats in boucle, drop-crotch cropped sweat pants, un-tucked dress shirts, very young boy-models in wigs...this is "Conservative" Comme des Garçons by Rei Kawakubo.



Jean Paul Gaultier Menswear Fall/Winter 2013-2014:


















The Look: The "runway" was staged as Changing Rooms which the models came out of to show their looks and then, disrobe--or at least, take one sweater, skirt, or jacket, off. It was disrobing a la Gaultier. Colors: red, black, gray, blue. Great sweaters and superb tailoring...par for the course at the Jean Paul Gaultier House of Menswear.
