The Look: First off, the one-and-only Naomi Campbell opened the Atelier Versace Fall/Winter 2013/2014 runway show in Paris on Sunday--marking the official start of Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week. She slinked down the runway with a jacket (barely) held together by crystal hooks and eyes--a main detail used throughout this collection designed by Donatella Versace and her design team.




Speaking of barely held together, this was also a running theme of this collection, one that she said was inspired by 1930's black and white fashion photography--such as the iconic Horst P. Horst photo of the Mainbocher corset (above, left). The garments--all made of the most luxurious fabrications, such as croq skin, knitted mink, sequined lace, shredded tulle (these garments can cost $100,00+ if you were to order them)--showed various stages of "undress", as if they were peeling off the body, with lots of skin and intricate lace undergarments poking through. And the final gowns were very red carpet perfect for Donatella's girls like Uma and Angelina (lots of high slits darling!). Here are some highlights:

There are some new videos up from my Look TV "Design School With Nick Verreos" series on Look TV/YouTube, and naturally I want to share them with you--along with some behind-the-scenes photos we took. The videos were shot at my NIKOLAKI/NV Nick Verreos atelier in the Atwater Village neighborhood of Los Angeles.




Some of the newest Look TV videos include "Creating Looks", "Draping" as well as "Creating a Collection". For the last "Creating a Collection" video, I was excited to use my NV Nick Verreos dress line--available at Dillards and Lord & Taylor--as an example.

 Canadian model of Eritrean descent, Grace Mahary--Christian Dior Haute Couture Fall 2013



Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week Fall 2013 is upon us and the first shows have occurred. First up: Christian Dior Haute Couture Fall 2013. The collection--designed by Belgian Creative Director and replacement to John Galliano-- Raf Simons. His collection was based on flags--international flags, as well as influences from America, Africa and Asia. As Style.com said "A revamped Bar jacket was followed by a sporty navy blouson; a strapless dress in tiers of spacey shibori (the Japanese process that produces that peculiar spiky fabric) preceded another strapless number vibrantly banded in shiny tribal colors. Dior himself was something of an internationalist (each collection, Simons reproduces two dresses by the old master as an homage), so it would have made sense to him". The collection was a mix of stiff, folded, pleated--and draped and fluid. It was definitely modern and continuing the Raf Simons-Revamp of the Dior Couture House...







Of note, this was THE FIRST time designer Raf Simons used models of color while being at Dior. Black models. He hasn't yet. And he had been criticized because of it (Good!). It seems he (or the Dior team) listened. And there were six black models on the Dior Haute Couture Fall 2013 runway including Alek Wek, Grace Mahary, Joan Smalls, Maria Borges, Kelly Moreira, and Yasmin Warsame.  Now, getting back to the FASHION...

Hyper Skinny Glam Boy:







The Look: Saint Laurent designer Hedi Slimane (yes, he who is formerly of Dior Homme and who has caused headaches for all the Top Critic Divas) gave you Glam Rock, HYPER skinny band member for his Spring 2014 offering for Saint Laurent Men's collection. It was very David Bowie-meets Johnny Weir- meets Austin Scarlett of "Project Runway Season One"....

Super skinny jeans/pants (very CROTCH-hugging...verging on Camel-toe!), scooped-neck tees and fitted jackets with super-fitted sleeves. There was a late70's-eary 80's vive--in the silhouettes, styling, and looks. It worked FABULOUUSLY on the 18-year old fat free kids modeling in the show, how will this translate to the 40+ man who might actually be able to afford a, say, $500 pair of Saint Laurent jeans?
