Gateway Suites, Gateway 3 PM
Binibining Pilipinas-International 2012 Nicole Schmitz is every inch a beauty queen. One look at her and you'll see how easily she landed this year's Binibining Pilipinas-International title. When she opens her mouth to speak, you'll realize there's even more to this 23-year-old than her looks, she's got the brains that could take her places.

At the Gateway Suites last Thursday, guests reveled in Nicole Schmitz's presence at her official send-off before she finally boards the plane on October 1st. All eyes are on her now. As she's getting ready to captivate the rest of the world at the 52nd Miss International Pageant in Okinawa, Japan on October 21, Nicole Schmitz is in tip-top shape and feels her very best.

Half German and half Filipino, she vaunts a resumé that confirms her time-tested aptitude as a model and potential beauty queen. A psychology major who's soon to hold a second degree in law from a university in Australia, Nicole has been modeling here and abroad even before she snagged a spot in the Binibining Pilipinas 2012 beauty tilt.

Her vast exposure through beauty pageants honed her skills and contributed a lot to how she handles herself in front of the audience. At 16, she was Miss Teen Philippines First Runner Up. In 2006, she went on to become Miss Mandaue Philippines. And because Nicole just never stops winning, after joining and becoming a finalist in the Binibining Pilipinas Pageant in 2007, she also won Model Quest Australia in the very same year. As if that's not enough, she triumphed as Miss Philippines Australia in 2008—truly a living proof that joining beauty pageants are better the 2nd, 3rd or 4th time around.

How exactly does a likely Miss International get herself ready for such a huge beauty competition? "There are a lot of preparations. It's getting a little bit scary now, because it's closer, but we're doing a variety of things. We go to the gym to get more toned, more fit, and healthier. We also get health checkups, eating well to make sure I don't get sick, and recently we started to have personality development classes, language, history about the Philippines, and just interviewing skills, things like that," Nicole reveals.

You'd think the reigning Binibining Pilipinas-International 2012 must feel pressured to follow in the footsteps of past Filipina Miss International winners. Four beautiful Filipinas have already brought glory home after winning the Miss International title: Gemma Cruz Araneta in 1964, Aurora Pijuan in 1970, Melanie Marquez in 1979, and Precious Lara Quigaman in 2005. Dianne Necio, the Philippines' Miss International contender last year made it to the Top 15 and won the People's Choice Award at the coronation night in Chengdu, China. The current Miss International is 23-year-old Fernanda Cornejo of Ecuador.

"The pageant is very near and fills me with both excitement and eagerness to jump in there and give my very best. I have prepped myself with months of training in all aspects—physical, mental and spiritual, and I really hope I can bring pride to our country," Nicole shares. "If ever I'm lucky enough to win (fingers crossed!), the first thing I'd like to do is board the next plane home so I can share the crown and celebrate with my country. Then of course, I'd carry out my reign as Miss International 2012 to the best of my abilities. For me, the future is open to all possibilities—showbiz definitely included!" continued Nicole who has the singing talent that will surely help her capture the hearts of international judges to boot.

Elaine Kay Moll, who was recently crowned Miss Supranational 2012 3rd Runner Up, believes her fellow Binibining Pilipinas 2012 winner will do great. "Nicole is very determined. All she has to do is be confident, be herself, be fierce, and she'll surely shine," says the first ever Pinay who placed in the 4th Miss Supranational Pageant in Poland.

Binibining Pilipinas-International 2011 Dianne Necio thinks Nicole will return to the Philippines victorious. "During the coronation night, when they were about to announce my successor, Nicole was one of my top bets. I felt she has what it takes to get the Miss International title," she divulged. "Nicole was very focused and disciplined all throughout the training. She's ready to battle even before she was given a crown, but she never stops improving and eagerly listens to suggestions. I'm sure she will do well in the competition and bring us the Miss International crown," Dianne adds.

Yet another strong contender who will vie for the 2012 Miss International crown against 71 other world-class beauties, Nicole Schmitz vows she won't disappoint her Filipino fans.

Bag Ladies
Want to know what’s in the bag of a beauty queen? Binibining Pilipinas 2012 winners Janine Tugonon, Nicole Schmitz, Trina Dimaranan, Kay Moll, and Ali Forbes dish out on the contents of their bags, and shares why mints should always be present in a beauty queen’s repertoire of essentials

Just like any other girl, the Binibining Pilipinas 2012 queens can’t leave home without their bags. From house keys to cellphones to makeup brushes, here are the top five essentials inside their trusty carry-alls.

Janine Mari Tugonon, Miss Universe Philippines 2012
Top five must-haves in my bag
Wallet. All my IDs, cash are in there.
Car and house keys.
Perfume. It’s always there, kasi we always go to different places, and siyempre didikit sa’yo yung amoy ng kapaligiran, sa labas, sa kalsada, tambutso ng sasakyan. Kailangan talaga after mong manggaling sa labas maglalagay ka ng perfume.
Mentos. We go to different events, so parati akong may nakahandang Mentos sa bag para yung breath ko laging okay.
Cellphone. I really feel lost without my cellphone, kasi lagi kong ka-text mommy ko and friends ko.

Changes bags daily or stick-to-one bag everyday?
I usually just bring one lang. And not just with my bag; this rings true with everything I have. Kung ano yung meron ako, yun lang yung ginagamit ko.

Chapstick. I cannot leave the house without it because I really like my lips to be moisturized and kissable.
Cellphone. It’s my only way of contact with my family and friends and business.
Face powder. Because being in the Philippines, where it’s very hot, and I use this for a quick touch up and I’m good to go.
House keys. Because of our hectic schedule, sometimes I come home late, so I don’t want to bother anyone in the house, so I just have to have my own set.
Wallet. My cards, cash, and IDs are all there.

Changes bags daily or stick-to-one bag everyday?
If I purchase a new purse, then yeah maybe I’ll use that. But no, I don’t change my bag every day. I just secure everything I have inside so I’ll know where everything is. I like big bags, because I like being able to fit everything inside one bag and I feel more comfortable when I am holding a larger bag rather than a smaller one. I just feel like with a bigger bag, I can fit more things, like I won’t forget anything when I leave the house.

Elaine Kay Moll, Miss Supranational 2012 3rd Runner Up
Top five must-haves in my bag
Ball pen. Lagi akong may ball pen, because hindi mo alam kung sino’ng makakasalubong mo, or if may kailangan kang i-fill up.
Notepad or notebook. I always have to have a notebook in my bag, para may masusulatan ka kung may gusto kang isulat na na-realize mo na gusto mo isulat, or things to remember. Mahilig kasi akong magsulat, lalo na mag-sketch or doodle.
Powder. Of course, kailangan laging may powder, kasi bawal ang oily moment! (laughs)
Lip gloss. For a beautiful smile.
Cellphone. I almost forgot this! Lagi kasing nasa pocket ko yung cellphone ko eh. (laughs)

Big bag girl or small bag girl?
Gusto ko yung bag na comfy lang dalhin. Yung hindi masyadong hassle. Pero ako I prefer a tote bag, para andun na lahat ng gamit ko. Mahilig akong maghalungkay ng gamit eh.

Annalie Forbes, Binibining Pilipinas 2012 2nd Runner Up
Top five must-haves in my bag
Wallet
ATM card
Toothbrush. Para fresh yung breath ko parati.
Makeup bag. For touch-ups throughout the day.
Alcohol. Para malinis parati.

Big bag girl or small bag girl?
Big bags. Kasi kapag big bags, I can put all my stuff there, tapos wala akong naiiwan. Unlike kapag small bags, kapag naglilipat ako ng gamit, lagi akong may naiiwan or nakakalimutan. Kaya mostly talagang kapag gumamit ako ng bag, yun na talaga, tapos matagal ko siyang papalitan.
My small gift of chocolate goodies for Ali.

Nicole Schmitz, Binibining Pilipinas International 2012
Top five must-haves in my bag
A bottle of water. I get thirsty throughout the day. Also, it’s good to stay hydrated; it’s good for your skin and your health in general.
Cellphone. That’s how I keep in contact with everyone. My phone is also where I keep my schedule. It basically organizes my life.
Mint. You never know when you’re going to need it. We meet people all the time with what we’re doing, and we always have to be presentable and prepared for those situations.
Powder. Especially in this climate you tend to be a little bit oily, once you put powder on your face you instantly look refreshed.
Lip gloss. I always like my lips to have a little bit of color and shine, and you always look refreshed and clean, and it adds to your look.

Changes bags daily or stick-to-one bag everyday?
I have a few bags. I’m a bag kind of girl. But I find that I end up using one more than the other just because it’s easier and I have all the little compartments where I put all my little things. It’s usually just one bag most days.

Back to party...
